Synopsis
The squabbling Norse gods and goddesses of Runemarks are back! And there's a feisty new heroine on the scene: Maggie, a girl the same age as Maddy but brought up a world apart - literally, in World's End, the focus of the Order in which Maddy was raised. Now the Order is destroyed, Chaos is filling the vacuum left behind... and is breaching the everyday world.
A chilling prophecy from the Oracle. A conflict between two girls. And with just twelve days to stave off the Apocalypse, carnage is about to be unleashed . . .
What the critics say
A second book by the Chocolat author in a series for young adults that reinterpre and adapt Norse mythology... but this time [Maddy] has some unexpected allies. 4*

Runelight is enjoyable, funny and dramatic. (8/10)
- Liverpool Daily Post
Imagine if civilisation as we know had been shaped wholly by the Vikings that invaded our shores more than a millennium ago. Welcome to the world of Joanne Harris's Runelight.
- Liverpool Echo

Editor's Comments
I couldn't wait to begin reading this when it was delivered as I had enjoyed RUNEMARKS so very much indeed - and Joanne definitely does it again, and more! I just love the way her gods are so human - we can all recognize elements of their characters in ourselves and our friends, I am sure - but they are also so firmly based on the established Norse mythology that those who love the old tales won't be disappointed, while those who don't know the Norse world at all will be gripped and enthralled by such wonderful storytelling and probably (like myself after Runemarks) will feel driven to read more about these characters. But Joanne really does bring in a few special twists of her own - watch out especially for Jolly ('Don't call me short!') who is absolutely inspired... Overall, this book really delivers for all fantasy fans - and fans of great storytelling. A great mythology, terrific characters and a plot that builds and builds to another superb climax.
