Synopsis

Lizzie is lonely. Her parents have gone and her brother, who believes he’s a woman, is missing. Most of all, though, Lizzie misses Sally, her former lover who has gone off with a man with a fat neck. She starts to stalk Sally, collecting bathroom fluff, dust and pubes from Sally’s bed – all the things that prove that somewhere life is taking place without her.
In Search of the Missing Eyelash is a novel about home and love and loss and what can become undone when we try to make it all better. It’s also about gender and sex and it flips from heartbreaking to hilarious within the stroke of an eyelash.

What the critics say

Rich with the details of everyday life…this is a book fairly bursting with character… full of heart, imagination and fun
- Independent on Sunday

Sensitive, ferocious and very funny
- New Statesman

Both comic and moving as it explores ideas of self, of gender, identification and loneliness
- Observer

A dazzling debut…the pages turn in a flurry and the jokes and fleeting arrows hit their targets
- Scotsman

McLeod’s prose was perfect and in some parts very poetic. I thought the way it dealt with gender, sexuality and a familiar breakdown was honest and poignant without being overly dramatic…I laughed at several parts out loud…I cant wait for her next book
